Antalya Airport to Alanya: distance and travel time

Most holidaymakers heading to Alanya fly into Antalya Airport. That is why the first real decision of the trip is often made right after landing: what is the best way to get from Antalya Airport to Alanya?

The distance between the airport and Alanya city centre is roughly 120-130 kilometres. The route follows the D400 coastal highway, passing Serik, Manavgat and the Side area. In normal traffic, the journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. In July and August, especially at weekends when hotel check-ins and check-outs peak, traffic can slow down through Manavgat.

Where you are staying also affects the journey time. Western resorts such as Okurcalar, Avsallar and İncekum are quicker to reach, while eastern areas like Mahmutlar, Kargıcak and Demirtaş add roughly 20-30 minutes to the trip. In this guide, we cover every option along with its pros and cons, so you can easily choose the one that best suits your budget and travel style.

Private transfer: the most comfortable choice for families and groups

A private transfer is the most comfortable way to get from the airport to your hotel door with no changes and no waiting around. The driver usually meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name, loads your luggage into the vehicle and takes you straight to your hotel.

This option is ideal for families with young children, larger groups of friends and anyone travelling with lots of luggage. The bigger the group, the closer the cost per person gets to public transport. If your flight is delayed, reputable transfer companies track your flight number and adjust the pick-up time accordingly.

Keep a few things in mind when booking: enter your flight number and the full name of your hotel correctly, request a child seat in advance if you need one, and confirm whether the price is one-way or return. Shared transfers can be cheaper, but the journey takes longer because the vehicle stops at several hotels. Since vehicles can be hard to find in peak summer season, booking your transfer a few days before you travel is the safest bet.

Budget-friendly travel by bus and public transport

For travellers on a budget with light luggage, public transport is a good alternative. During the season, there may be shuttle buses running from the airport towards Alanya; we recommend checking current timetables through the operator's official channels before you travel.

Another option is to head first to Antalya Bus Station (Otogar) and catch an intercity coach to Alanya from there. You can reach the bus station from the airport by city bus or tram, but allow extra time for this connection. Numerous buses run between Antalya and Alanya throughout the day, and they may also stop at places along the way such as Manavgat, Okurcalar and Avsallar.

Alanya Bus Station is located west of the city centre. From there, you can reach your hotel by dolmuş (shared minibus), municipal bus or taxi. As the total journey including connections can take up to 3 hours, this option is not ideal for late-night arrivals or tired travellers. For daytime arrivals, however, it offers an affordable and enjoyable coastal ride.

Taking a taxi: fast but requires some care

Taxis are easy to find outside the airport and offer a quick solution if you have not planned ahead. However, since the trip is over 120 kilometres, the metered fare is usually noticeably higher than a pre-booked private transfer.

If you decide to take a taxi, agree on the total fare with the driver before setting off and make sure the meter is running. Ask upfront whether you can pay by card or cash, as some vehicles may not accept cards. Taking a car from the official taxi rank is always safer than accepting offers from strangers who approach you inside the terminal.

For passengers landing after midnight, a taxi is a practical option when public transport is limited. Even at these hours, though, a pre-booked transfer provides more predictable costs and a more relaxed welcome. In short, a taxi is a good backup plan for last-minute needs, but it does not have to be your first choice on a well-planned holiday.

Car hire: freedom throughout your holiday

If you want to explore the area rather than just stay at your hotel in Alanya, hiring a car at the airport can make sense. Many international and local rental companies operate at Antalya Airport. Once you pick up the car, simply follow the D400 highway to Alanya; road signs are clear and easy to follow.

A rental car lets you visit places such as Sapadere Canyon, the Dim River, the ancient city of Side and the highland plateaus of the Taurus Mountains at your own pace. That said, finding parking in central Alanya can be difficult in summer, especially around Cleopatra Beach and the harbour. Check in advance whether your hotel offers parking.

When renting, read the insurance cover, deposit terms and fuel policy carefully. Taking photos of any existing scratches and damage when you collect the car helps avoid disputes on return. As traffic on the coastal road can be heavy in summer, planning longer drives for early morning gives you both cooler temperatures and a more relaxed drive.

An alternative route: Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport

Antalya Airport is not your only option. Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport is located about 40 kilometres east of Alanya city centre. From there, you can reach the centre by road in around 40-50 minutes. If you are staying in eastern areas such as Mahmutlar, Kargıcak or Demirtaş, this airport can cut your journey time significantly.

The biggest drawback of Gazipaşa is that it has far fewer flights than Antalya. Alongside domestic routes, there are some international and seasonal flights, but connections may not be available from every city or on every date. When searching for tickets, comparing both airports side by side is a smart strategy.

Private transfers, taxis, shuttle buses and car hire are all available from Gazipaşa to Alanya as well. Thanks to the short distance, taxi fares stay much more reasonable than from Antalya. A less crowded terminal and quick baggage reclaim are also a nice bonus for families with children.

Practical tips for night arrivals, luggage and families with children

A large share of charter flights to Alanya land late at night or in the early morning. Public transport options are limited at these times, so arranging your transport in advance for a night arrival makes the first hours of your holiday much more relaxed.

If you are travelling with children, be sure to let your transfer company know in advance that you need a child seat. Having snacks and water with you makes the two-hour journey easier, especially in the hot summer months. If you need a break on the way, just ask the driver; there are rest stops and petrol stations along the D400.

A little preparation goes a long way with luggage too. If you are bringing bulky items such as golf bags, pushchairs or diving equipment, make sure the vehicle has enough space. A charged phone and mobile data are important for contacting your driver and sharing your location. Finally, save your hotel's address and contact details offline, as the internet connection in the terminal can be unreliable.
